Ports are no longer the „world in our cities“ (Stefan Zweig), but a „world in our heads“ (Florian Beckerhoff)
The ‘world in minds’ project is an artistic approach to the ports of Hamburg (Germany), Antwerp (Belgium), Le Havre (France), and Istanbul (Turkey). The history and present of the four ports, as well as the frequency of tanker arrivals and departures, form the basis of the project’s content and complement each other in their interplay. What does a port mean for the respective city, and how has the development of the individual ports proceeded? In the past, ships sailed directly into the city, so the port was part of the city. Nowadays, access to the port is strictly controlled and only for authorised people. The project brings together the past, present, and future of the four ports and tanker traffic. Stories about the ports, about other worlds, ideas, and exchanges are created. The images brought back from the journeys are further developed and put into a process of constant metamorphosis using various media and materials.

Das Projekt „world in minds“ ist eine künstlerische Annäherung an die Häfen von Hamburg, Antwerpen in Belgien, Le Havre in Frankreich und Istanbul in der Türkei. Die Geschichte und Gegenwart der vier Häfen, sowie die Frequenz der ein- und ausfahrenden Tankschiffe, sind die inhaltliche Grundlage des Projekts und ergänzen sich im Zusammenspiel. Was bedeutet ein Hafen für eine Stadt und wie ist die Entwicklung der Häfen verlaufen. Schiffe fuhren früher direkt in Städte, der Hafen war Teil der Stadt. Heutzutage ist der Zugang zum Hafen streng kontrolliert und nur für Befugte zugänglich. Das Projekt bringt die Vergangenheit, die Gegenwart und Zukunft der vier Häfen und des Tankerverkehrs zusammen. Es entstehen Geschichten über die Häfen, über andere Welten, Ideen und Austausch.
